# Company Menu Modifier Dependencies

> Show modifier groups only when a customer makes a required earlier selection.

Modifier dependencies control when a modifier group appears. A dependent modifier remains hidden until the customer selects the required option from an earlier modifier.

<Note>
  These instructions apply to Company Menu modifiers. If your locations maintain separate menus, use the original [Modifier Dependencies guide](/orders/menu/modifiers/modifiers-dependencies).
</Note>

## How dependencies work

Use dependencies when a choice should be available only after another selection.

Examples:

* Show 24 oz options only after the customer selects **Iced**.
* Show Whipped Cream only after the customer selects **Hot**.
* Show chip choices only after the customer selects **Yes** for Add a Combo.

Dependencies follow the modifier order on the product. Place the controlling modifier before the dependent modifier.

## Add a dependency

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the product">
    On the Web Dashboard, go to **Menu** > **Products** > **View** product > **Modifiers**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check modifier order">
    Make sure the modifier containing the required earlier choice appears before the modifier you want to hide. Drag the modifier handle to reorder if needed.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Edit the dependent modifier">
    Open the modifier that should appear conditionally and find **Dependencies**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the required selection">
    Select the earlier modifier and the option that should reveal this modifier.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save and test">
    Save the modifier and test the complete product flow on every enabled ordering platform.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  A Global modifier can be attached to several shared products. Review each attached product before changing its dependencies or order.
</Warning>

## Test dependency behavior

Test both sides of the condition:

1. Add the product without selecting the required option. The dependent modifier should remain hidden.
2. Select the required option. The dependent modifier should appear.
3. Change the controlling selection. The dependent modifier should update correctly.
4. Repeat the flow on Point of Sale and customer ordering platforms where the product is enabled.

Location Availability and platform settings still apply. A correctly configured dependency will not make the product or modifier available at a store or platform where the product itself is unavailable.
