D) Transactions: Refunding Orders & Sending Receipts

Learn how to refund transactions at the POS!

What's in this article?

In this article, we'll learn how to refund orders on the transactions page as well as send out digital receipts.

Refunding Orders

Once you've selected an order, you'll notice a 'Refund' button inside of the Order Info card. It should look like this:

Orders can be refunded at any time. If refunding within the same day, the charge will drop off of the customer's bank statement right away. If refunding after the first day, it may take 3-5 business days for the funds to be refunded to the customer.

To initiate a refund, tap the 'Refund' button. It will take you to this page:

As you can see, you have options to select all the products you want refunded. As you select additional checkboxes, it'll automatically update the total that is being refunded inside of the button. We'll automatically calculate the tax per item as well so you don't have to worry about messing that up! Once you are ready to confirm, simply tap the 'Refund $x.xx' button. You'll then be taken back to the transactions page and the refund button will reflect the changes:

You might have noticed one other option inside of the refund page, a custom refund. It should appear right next to the refund button and look like this:

Tapping on 'Custom refund' will make the following popup show:

Rather than refunding an order based on the products, you can enter in any amount and submit the refund this way.

Finally, if you scroll further down under Payments you'll notice a button called 'Void Ticket'. After confirming you'd like to void a ticket, the order will disappear from the ticket screen and all other prep stations. If you'd like to refund an order, but still have it prepped, you can leave this as is.

Sending Digital Receipts

Similar to sending a refund, you'll notice a receipt button once you've selected a transaction:

Tapping 'Send Receipt' will make the following popup show:

From here, you can enter in a customer's phone number or email address to send them a digital copy of their receipt. They can see all the order totals as well as an order tracker displaying the status of their order once they receive the receipt!
