Modifier dependencies allow you to only display modifier options if another modifier option is selected. To get started, you will need a product that has multiple modifier sets attached to it. To reiterate, products that only have one modifier set attached will not be able to use this feature, as no other selections would be possible to prompt that new modifier set to be hidden or displayed.

Set up Modifier Dependencies

  1. First, navigate to the product’s page by clicking Sales > Menu on the Web Dashboard.
  1. Once on this page, click View to click into a product’s page, or click Products to search for more products.
  1. That should take you to this page.
  1. Scroll down and click Modifiers to see any attached modifier sets.
  1. Don’t forget that Sized Pricing also constitutes a modifier set. Find that under Pricing.
  1. Once you’ve reviewed your attached modifiers, let’s click back into a particular modifier set, such as Temperature. Notice that a Dependencies drop down shows up.
  1. If you select the dropdown, you’ll see a number of dependencies that can be selected for this modifier set to show:
  1. To add a dependency, click on a selection, which will add a checkmark next to the selected dependency.
  1. In this example, since the Size - 12oz dependency has been selected, the Temperature modifier set will only appear if the 12oz size is chosen.

  2. You can create as many modifier dependencies as you’d like with custom and global add-on modifiers.

Utilizing Modifier Dependencies

Modifier dependencies are typically used to streamline a menu or limit modifier selection options based on previous selections.

Here’s a few examples of workflows this feature may be helpful for:

  1. If you only sell certain cup sizes depending on a temperature selection (and vice versa).
  2. If certain add-ons such as syrups or toppings can only be added based upon temperature or size selections
  3. If you sell multiple items within the same product in a “meal vs sandwich-only workflow”
  4. If you’d simply like to hide non-required modifier sets to show until after required modifier selections have been made.

In short, modifier dependencies only display modifier sets if a previous modifier selection (or dependency) has been made.
